ANTIRUSTY CHROME EXTENSION

Get started with AntiRusty for Chrome

Use desktop Chrome. The extension sits beside your reading, while your AntiRusty account connects learning on the web and your phone.

Preparing for release on the Chrome Web Store

The Chrome Web Store release is being prepared. You can install the ZIP preview using the steps below.

Open the web learning app

Shortcut: Alt + Shift + A

Install ZIP preview 1.2.0

Download AntiRusty 1.2.0 (.zip)
  1. Download and extract the ZIP to a permanent folder.
  2. In desktop Chrome, open chrome://extensions and enable Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked, select the folder containing manifest.json, then pin AntiRusty.
  4. Open a website and invoke AntiRusty → Account to sign in. Opening panel.html through file:// only shows installation help.
  1. 01

    Install, pin and sign in

Install from the Chrome Web Store when publicly available, then pin AntiRusty. Invoke its toolbar icon on a website → Account → sign in with a password or email code. Use the same account as the web/mobile app; its active learning language is used.

  2. 02

Select → look up → save to account

Invoke AntiRusty on any ordinary website, select a word or phrase → Look up with AntiRusty → Save to account. Enable the lookup box for the current website to grant persistent access to that site only. The context menu and Discover input also work.

  3. 03

One library across web and mobile

In the extension, open Vocabulary → AntiRusty account → Refresh from server. Choose Open web vocabulary to study at antirusty.com/app; if the web asks you to sign in, use the same account as the extension. Review now updates the account’s FSRS schedule. Local drafts have separate review schedules and need Sync to save them to your account.

  4. 04

    Practice directly on YouTube/video

Enable video captions and invoke AntiRusty, or choose Video → Open practice on video. The in-page panel offers sentence selection, speed/repeat controls, Dictation with answer checks, and Shadowing with local voice recording. Choose Send recording for scoring to upload audio and the target sentence to AntiRusty. Detailed word/phone scores appear when supported; transcript-only fallback results are clearly identified. Click subtitle words to look up/save. If transcripts are unavailable, open YouTube’s transcript and reconnect, use the current visible caption, or import a matching SRT/VTT.

A few things to know

When you need a hand

Signed into the extension, but the web still asks for sign-in?

The extension and web app keep separate sign-in sessions. Extension pages start with chrome-extension://; the web learning app is at antirusty.com/app. Choose Open web vocabulary in the extension, then sign into the same account on the web if asked. Saved account vocabulary remains on the server; you do not need to save it again or delete any data.

Selected text is not appearing?

Invoke the AntiRusty toolbar icon on the page to grant temporary access. Select text outside input fields. Chrome restricts internal pages, the Web Store and some embedded players.

Account connection failed, or words are missing in the app?

Check the account and learning language, then choose AntiRusty account → Refresh from server. For a local draft, choose Local drafts → Sync. If server access is denied, keep local cards or export JSON and contact support. You do not need to delete data to retry.

No captions or microphone recording?

Enable video captions, invoke the toolbar icon and reconnect, or import a matching SRT/VTT file. The on-video recording button opens an extension window; choose Start recording and allow Chrome microphone access. Recordings stay on the device for the current session, for up to 60 seconds. Only Send recording for scoring uploads audio and the target sentence to AntiRusty. You can also select an existing recording and retry after network errors without recording again.
